Pool Towel Supplier for South America: Season, Duty and Language
South America is the market where getting the order timing right matters more than anywhere else we ship to, and where the most orders arrive a season late.

We supply pool and beach towels to hotels, resorts, clubs, distributors and importers across Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Uruguay.
THE SEASON IS INVERTED, AND THE LEAD TIME IS LONG
South American pool season peaks December through February. Northern hemisphere properties are ordering for June through August. Those two calendars collide badly.
Your peak stock has to be produced and shipped during the months when Indian mills are running northern summer orders, which is exactly when lead times stretch. Add to that the transit itself. India to South America is one of the longest ocean routes we run, and most of it transships rather than sailing direct, commonly through Singapore, the Middle East or Europe. A missed connection at a transshipment port adds weeks, not days.
The working rule: place the order in the middle of the calendar year for a December peak. An order placed in October is an order for next season. Every year some buyers find this out in November.
Two practical consequences. Consolidate into fewer, larger shipments rather than splitting, because the freight penalty and the transit risk on a small consignment are the same as on a full container. And carry more float than a northern property would, since an emergency top up is not realistic on this route.
BRAZIL IS A DIFFERENT IMPORT PROBLEM FROM THE REST
Brazil is the largest market in the region and the most procedurally demanding, and a buyer new to importing will not get through it without preparation.
The importer needs a Radar licence with Receita Federal before it can clear anything through SISCOMEX. This is the importer's registration, not something a supplier can arrange, and it takes time to obtain.
The goods need a correct NCM classification, which is the Mercosur tariff code. Textiles sit under the Mercosur common external tariff, which is high by world standards, and ICMS is charged at state level on top of federal duty, so the effective landed cost differs between São Paulo and Bahia.
None of this is a reason not to sell into Brazil. It is a reason to work it out before the container sails rather than after. We provide a clean commercial invoice, correct classification and full origin documentation; your despachante aduaneiro handles the rest.
Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay are also Mercosur, so the tariff logic is similar. Argentina's import licensing regime has changed several times in recent years, so confirm the current requirement with your customs agent rather than relying on what applied last season.
Chile, Peru and Colombia are considerably more open and, in our experience, the easiest entry points in the region for a first order.
LANGUAGE AND LABELLING
Brazil is Portuguese. Everywhere else in the region is Spanish. A single label will not serve both, and a buyer who receives Spanish labelled goods in Brazil has a relabelling job.
Mercosur textile labelling requires the label to be in the language of the destination country, showing fibre content, care instructions, size and country of origin, with the importer identified. In Brazil that means Portuguese and INMETRO expectations; in Argentina and Uruguay, Spanish.
Terminology, so your enquiry and your listing use the words buyers use:
Brazil. Toalha de piscina for the pool towel, toalha de praia for beach. Roupão for bathrobe. Enxoval hoteleiro is the term for a hotel linen programme as a whole.
Spanish speaking markets. Toalla de piscina, toalla de playa, albornoz for bathrobe. Note that toalla de alberca is Mexican and will read as foreign in Colombia or Argentina.
SPECIFICATION
The region specifies in GSM and centimetres.
Standard pool towel, 75 x 150 cm. Oversized resort and cabana, 90 x 180 cm, which is what Brazilian coastal resorts and Punta del Este properties generally want. Club and fitness poolside, 70 x 140 cm.
Weight, 400 to 450 GSM. Not heavier. Pool towels air dry outdoors between uses, and in Cartagena, Bahia or the Brazilian Northeast a heavier towel will not dry between uses and goes sour.
Ring spun, normal twist. Not zero twist, which snags on loungers and holds moisture.
Vat dyeing for any colour. Pool chlorine plus equatorial and subtropical UV will strip reactive dye within a season. Vat dyes are fixed inside the fibre rather than bonded to the surface, which is why they hold. They cost more and the colour range is narrower, and for pool stock they are the only correct answer.
One thing no dye fixes. Mineral sunscreen containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide bonds to cotton and dulls any towel. Dark and mid tone colours hide it far better than white, which is the real reason resorts run coloured pool towels rather than white. No towel is sunscreen proof and any supplier who says otherwise is overselling.
Make the pool towel look different from the room towel. A cabana stripe, a bold solid, a contrast border. If both are white, guests move them between the pool and the room, housekeeping cannot separate them in a cart, and by the end of the season the count is meaningless.
